CMIP6 Visualisation Tool
Further guide to search terms
Here we provide further information on the meaning of each of the search terms provided above. For general reference, please refer to Nicholls et al. (2021) as well as the CMIP6 controlled vocabulary and CMIP5 controlled vocabulary.
- Variable: The variable to examine. The short name in brackets follows the CMIP variable tables.
- CMIP era: The era of CMIP to search. See the CMIP5 overview and CMIP6 overview.
- Normalisation: For details of the different normalisation types and how they are calculated, see examples of netCDF-SCM's normalisation, netCDF-SCM's normalisation documentation and Nicholls et al. (2021).
- Experiment: Also known as scenario, see the CMIP6 controlled vocabulary and CMIP5 controlled vocabulary (specifically Appendix 1.1).
- Timeseries Type: Time-averaging applied to the raw data. Monthly files have had no time-averaging applied above what is provided in the raw CMIP6 monthly output. Annual-mean files are the average over the calendar year (i.e. the value for each year is the average over 1st Jan to 31st Dec of the specified year).
- Region: The region over which the data should be aggregated. See Nicholls et al. (2021), particularly discussion of regional aggregation and netCDF-SCM's weights documentation. The latest set of 58 AR6 reference regions as defined in Iturbide et al. (2020) have been used.
- Member ID: The member ids follow the CMIP6 controlled vocabulary and CMIP5 controlled vocabulary (specifically Section 2.2).
- Source ID: The model which provided the data. These follow the CMIP6 controlled vocabulary. In CMIP5, this was referred to as 'model' (see Section 2.2 of the CMIP5 controlled vocabulary). Here we have used the CMIP6 identifier for consistency with the latest iteration of CMIP.
